Movie Comparison: The Silence of The Lambs (1991) and A Quiet Place (2018)

The Silence of the Lambs is a psychological horror movie starring Jodie Foster as Clarice Starling, a top student at the FBI’s academy training center and Anthony Hopkins as Doctor Hannibal Lecter, a brilliant psychologist who turned into a psychopathic cannibal murderer. A Quiet Place on the other hand, is led by two main characters which are Lee Abbott (played by John Krasinski), a strong father figure and his equally strong wife, Evelyn Abbott (played by Emily Blunt) along with their family in a post-apocalypse horror movie. Both movies are driven by similar horrific themes but deliver them in very different ways. In The Silence of The Lamb, the element of horror is mainly exercised through crime which includes graphic depiction of murdered victims and explicit description of Hannibal Lecter’s past crimes. There’re also subtler aspects of horror that can be seen in instances when Dr Hannibal Lecter manipulates situations to his advantage. A Quiet Place on the other hand, utilises ...

My Idea of Art

I've came to the realization that everything that I love in the end walks me back to my idea of art. That space forever safe for experimentation. The timeless domain filled with infinite space. I'm eager to learn the rules of the world so that I can rewrite them and fill this space. That the idea of time and its myriads of definitions aren't intriguing to me for their attempts to reflect the real world, but by understanding them at least in a particular sense, allows me to touch it, and change it. And I see these definitions as colours, mixed, combined and painted into pictures. And sure enough my world is not this world. But I don't care if my world is not as important or as grand. my world is for me to play around and to be the impetus for me to keep learning. Probably these were the reasons as to why I used to be uninterested with practicality which I deemed as insipid or rigid. Work is work. Work brings me money. But my love is different. I will never expect my lov...

Cloud Computing in Manufacturing Process

The progression of technology in the past decade has been seemingly unstoppable with new technologies being introduced for multiple purposes including manufacturing processes. Cloud computing is one of the most recent innovation that has been widely utilized by competitive manufacturers all around the world. this recent advancement in technology is a promising investment that offers agility, speed, and insight that is needed to keep up with the ever- increasing complexity and demands modern manufacturing. Cloud-based strategies give companies the chance to bring their own innate intelligence and knowledge into every sales situation. While on-premise systems could also do this, cloud-based systems are quicker to roll out, easier to customize and show potential to increase adoption rates across resellers. With the use of cloud computing, each process that are required to comply to certain quality standards can now be integrated and applied to every production centers associated with...

Twitter Rants

One of the most valuable thing I've learned is the importance of being able to completely sever your pre acquired logic from a newly confronted idea. For e.g if I propose an idea that the people you confront everyday isn't real and the real them exist in another realm that contains a projection of your real entity, you will find it outrageous. Your initial reasoning will tell you to immediately deny this. We are used to believing that we live in a single realm (not saying this as untrue) but there's always the possibility that my proposed idea is true. Now to start discussing this idea requires a certain degree of acceptance in regard to its possibility. And to acquire that degree of acceptance requires the ability to sever yourself from your own pre acquired logic. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sir Roger Scruton "An incredibly damaging idea that has spread across the w...

An Analogy of Falling in Love

I used to think of cliche statements about relationships as empty. Mainstream sayings such as "there is only one happiness in life to be loved and to love" or "distance means nothing when someone means everything". These repetitive notions about current deformed relationships lacks meaning and as people reuse these quotes over and over again, they get even more insipid and soon enough, they become too repulsive to even hear, at least that was how I felt. But then, as time passes (again, with time, realizations are born) I realize that people don't use these boring googled words as some sort of prophecies from a love bible, they only utter these to reassure themselves. After all, humans are creatures with constant need for reassurance; love, goals, meaning, we, me included live with at least a certain thing to accomplish, a certain goal that we rely on to assure us that we are doing something  useful. Devoid of objective, we suddenly feel soulless. I also realize...

A Trip To China

Image
360GEM Trip to HCBITZ 4-10 November 2018 China was never a country that I’ve ever dreamed of setting my foot in. Growing up in Malaysia, the occasional encounter with Malaysians of Chinese descendant convinced me that I had a decent amount of understanding about Chinese people and their culture. This short trip that only spanned for a week not only proved my ignorant naiveté wrong, but also exposed me to a lot of different lessons and experiences that have benefited me in various ways. One of the least talked about knowledge that you can get by travelling is the airline company that you will want to avoid for your next trip. All students are instructed to buy their flight tickets from Air Asia. This was done to ensure the smoothness of the trip and helps in managing the group which consisted of 29 people. It was never a choice to begin with but still the experience of trying to sleep in a cramped space with stiff sits was memorable. A funny one indeed. Upon reaching Macau...

Our Barren Land

Our story was not a home that we used to live It was an office A part of our life  but it never was a place for us to belong Lately, looking at you makes me feel like I'm floating in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean Why Atlantic Ocean? I don't know. Maybe it reminds me of you Looking at you  Makes me feel like I'm the only one anchored to this seabed And you are slowly drifting away from me This is not the same haunting ghost that engulfed me in its dark body This is a desolate space, like an abandoned workplace In between the differences that we possess when we speak ourselves Maybe we do have a similarity We both need someone But not necessarily each other

Pale Blue Dot by Carl Sagan (1994) : A Vision of the Human Future in Space

"Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there--on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam. The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot. Think of the endless cruelti...
